HOMS signs collaboration agreement with international robotic surgery expert James Hamilton
As Director of Innovation and Quality for Robotic and Metabolic Surgery at HOMS, Dr. Hamilton will drive research projects and new robotic procedures.
In order to strengthen private medical care in the country, providing patients with access to the latest medical and technological advances in robotic surgery, the Hospital Metropolitano de Santiago (HOMS), signed a cooperation agreement with Dr. James Hamilton, an international specialist in robotic, digestive and bariatric surgery.
Dr. Hamilton, who has performed more than 6,000 complex abdominal surgeries and more than 3,000 robotic digestive tract and bariatric surgeries, will serve as HOMS’ Director of Innovation and Quality of Robotic and Metabolic Surgery in the incorporation of new robotic procedures, expanding the hospital’s portfolio of differentiated services.
The agreement signed by Dr. Rafael Sánchez Español, director and president of the Administrative Council, and James Hamilton, who is also a researcher, teacher and world advisor in robotic technology, aims to increase the number of publications as an element to help improve treatments and make evidence-based medicine, raising the level of excellence and patient safety even higher.
Referring to this alliance, Dr. Sánchez Español said that HOMS is the meeting point for the needs of patients, knowledge, research, innovation and experience; therefore, together with Hamilton, they seek to generate new ideas, offer training and work hand in hand with Dominican physicians to continue strengthening the quality of care, research and teaching.
“We continue to bet on innovation and knowledge transfer because we believe in continuous growth through a culture of dialogue, collaboration and strategic adaptation, that is why we are referents actively incorporating innovation and research to our clinical practice; hand in hand with Dr. Hamilton we will work to obtain international quality accreditations, develop specialized clinics and solidify the positioning as leaders in health tourism in the northern area”, detailed Dr. Sanchez Espanol.
The agreement states that the hospital’s innovation projects will be framed in research, as well as in the construction of an innovation ecosystem in the field of robotic surgery, with universities and companies from both the health sector and other sectors. It will also promote organizational and healthcare management, materials and devices, as well as information and communication technologies (ICT) in healthcare.
