Hospital Metropolitano de Santiago performs the first hernioplasty surgery with a robot
Hospital Metropolitano de Santiago continues to provide the entire population with medical services of the highest quality and safety standards. Recently, the first case in the history of the country of bilateral inguinal hernioplasty with the Da Vinci Robot technique was performed.
The patient was a 62-year-old male patient with a diagnosis of bilateral inguinal hernia, very symptomatic, generating constant hypogastric pain with a feeling of heaviness. Thanks to the advantages of robotic surgery, the patient was discharged the day after surgery with a satisfactory evolution.
Dr. Hector Sanchez Navarro, director of the Robotic Surgery Center, pointed out that “the procedure performed called TAPP (transperitoneal minimally invasive inguinal hernioplasty), through the robotic approach, this surgery can be performed without the need to cause large wounds in the inguinal region. This technology available at HOMS allows the patient to have less postoperative pain and, above all, a faster return to normal life”.
HOMS, the pioneer and only hospital in the country and the Caribbean region to have this surgical technology, continues to make history in medicine with high quality standards, to make it available to the entire Dominican population.
