Hospital Metropolitano de Santiago and Medtronic inaugurate state-of-the-art digestive motility unit

Within the framework of growth and continuous improvement of medical services, HOMS in strategic alliance with Medtronic, creates in its Digestive Endoscopy Department, the Digestive Motality Unit.

Dr. Brígida Navarro de Sánchez, head of the Department, considers that with the incorporation of these services, HOMS puts in the hands of physicians and their patients a technology that favors excellence in the diagnosis and treatment of digestive diseases so common in the population, which can be performed in an environment of comfort and safety without having to leave their region.

Manometry and Phmetry studies are performed to evaluate the motor function of the esophagus and the degree of acidity in this organ. These tools help the physician make an accurate diagnosis of gastroesophageal reflux, hiatal hernia and other esophageal disorders. Rectal manometry also provides information on evacuatory disorders such as constipation and fecal incontinence. On the other hand, capsule endoscopy allows high-resolution images to be taken in the digestive tract without the need to introduce endoscopes or sedation.

Medtronic’s Rafael Rodriguez recalled that his company’s mission is “to restore health and prolong life. That is why we believe in creating alliances like these across the industry, where we share a common goal”.

During the activity, Dr. Enmanuel Espinal, coordinator of the Unit, spoke about the benefits of the procedures. Dr. Sergio Blasco, general manager of the hospital, reaffirmed the commitment of HOMS to offer the best technology and scientific knowledge with humanism, at the service of the population.

The activity was attended by gastroenterologists and physicians from other related disciplines.
