Cranberry: an ally against infections

Cranberry, especially cranberry, is an option to prevent and fight urinary tract infections.

It has been demonstrated in different publications, its mechanism of action, which lies in the effect exerted by proanthocyanidins, a substance present in this fruit, which prevent Escherichia coli (the main bacterium responsible for urinary tract infections in children and adults) from adhering to the urinary tract, exerting its antibacterial action.

A similar effect has on other infections that depend on the binding of bacteria to tissues. It is useful for example in the prevention of gastrointestinal ulcers, preventing the adhesion of Helicobacter pylori bacteria in the stomach wall.

It also contributes directly by inhibiting the formation of dental plaque on peridontal tissues and ligaments.

Among other benefits, it is worth mentioning its high value in vitamin C, K and antioxidants, keeping our cardiovascular and immune systems healthy. And its high flavonoid content enhances our memory and improves learning and other cognitive and motor functions.
